A missing underscore sent innocent man to prison for 18 months for non-existent sex offense

Source: arstechnica.com 7/27/26

One missing underscore in a Skyrim-themed username put an innocent Nova Scotia man in prison for 18 months.

A 2018 child-luring investigation, which began in Madison, Wisconsin, and eventually extended to Halifax, Canada, was based on a false premise.

Police were looking for a man using the Kik messaging service under the name “fus__ro_dah” (two underscores after “fus”), but they accidentally requested records for the username “fus_ro_dah” (one underscore after “fus”). This one-character difference led them not to the perpetrator but to a Canadian man named Brandon Klayme.

Arrested, charged, and convicted despite a complete lack of evidence only because of an accusation of child sex crime. And not even a contact offense, at that.

And here I thought the Canadians were slightly more sensible in regards to sex offense issues.

So all is stupidity started with Wisconsin? Sounds about right for the stupid cheddar heads. So was he arrested and charged in Canada then? That’s the way it sounds.

This is a poorly written article that doesn’t explain key information. Such as, where was he prosecuted and convicted? Did he get extradited to Wisconsin and serve his 18 months sentence? I would find that more probable, because I can’t see anyone in Canada serving prison time for that minor of a crime that didn’t involve a hands on offense. The article says he was charged with possession of CSAM, but the police found no images on his phone. Only the girl’s mother found an inappropriate image of an assumed ‘adult male’ (which can be obtained legally anywhere on the net). And did they catch the real perpetrator in California? If that person had heard a sliver regarding this case, that would’ve tipped them off to ditch their phone and account. This article has to many holes for me to even decide what I think about the case

Rubber stamp justice system, gotta love it. This should cause outrage in people who cherish liberty, but here in the U.S. it probably won’t. People have been spoon-fed the propaganda by their leaders so much that they couldn’t tolerate a dose of reality like this. They will block it out and tell themselves that we’re the greatest country on earth and a torch for liberty around the world like Dorothy saying “There’s no place like home” until they completely believe the delusion (despite the fact we hold 20% of the world’s incarcerated with only 5% of the world’s population). Given the current administration’s penchant for prisons, I believe they will have to chant all the louder now to block the intrusive thoughts of reality out.

Side note: I bet NONE of the major media will cover this either.

This went as far as it did because there is no presumption of innocence when it comes to alleged sex crimes. They were not looking for the truth, they were looking to convict this guy so they did.

Wisconsin officials should give up their government jobs and become scarecrows. They already attract crows and spend too much time in pastures.

What in the world happened to Blackstone’s ratio? It tells us that it’s better to let 1000 guilty men go free than to imprison one innocent person. Today’s society doesn’t care at all. It just sees cases like these as necessary casualties.

It breaks my heart that the Canucks are doing the bidding of cheese heads 🤭
